Flock and Photobucket = FlockBucket

www.shmula.com, flock, photobucketI’ve been a dedicated user of Flock for about 6 months now.  Last month, Flock released their Beta version (I was using the Alpha Developer Version) which is very cool.  Today, they launch the customized version of Flock with a dedicated photo integration tool. The non-customized version allows for seamless integration with Flickr as well as other online photo sites.

Flock is very cool. For many years, browsing pretty much allowed the user to just browse; as browsing technology evolved from [netscape -> internet explorer -> firefox] . . . and now, Flock. Flock is much more than browsing — it’s social browsing, allowing for easy integration with MySpace, LiveJournal, Flickr (and all the Yahoo! tools), PhotoBucket, Blogger, Wordpress, del.icio.us, and other blogging and social bookmarking tools. It allows traditional browsing with social participation. Very cool.

Interesting story. While I was with Amazon, I was part of the MIT recruiting team and we came across Geoffrey Arone’s resume (Founder of Flock). I was impressed and wanted to speak with him, but the team wanted someone who had more of an Operations Research background and, frankly, was much geekier than he was (is not being too geeky offensive?). I disagreed (I thought he was plenty geeky) and wanted to interview him, but that was the end of it. Fast forward several years and think of what might have been: perhaps there would be an Amazon Browser today — what would that look like?

The Flock guys are very cool also. They’re going to help me answer the question: “Why Flock and not Firefox” soon. Perhaps they’ll do a interview like those found here.

Imagine a Flock + Mozy Integration — now, that’s something to think about.
