Google’s Acquisitions: A Timeline

Update [11/07/2006]: I created another timeline mashup that shows all M&A activity completed by Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo acquisition all over-layed on the same timeline, from 2001 to Present. You can find that here:

Acquisition Timeline Mashup: Google, Yahoo, Microsoft

As most of you know, Google acquired JotSpot today. And, just a few weeks ago, Google acquired YouTube. In honor of Google’s buying spree, I’ve put together a nice ajax-y, draggable timeline of all the companies Google has acquired and a short snippet about each acquisition. My data source is this Wikipedia entry.

Usage: Click and Right-arrow on the pane or you can scroll with your mouse. Click on the Company names for more details on the deal.

Note: The timeline below will not work IE6, and looks a little goofy in IE7 — I don’t want to offend you by telling you to use a “real browser”, but, feel free to use any other browser other than Internet Explorer — I suggest Flock. Enjoy!

In case you’re interested, you can read my detailed 2-day job interview with Google: I received an offer, but I rejected it.

Geez, I was about to do that… A more specific timeline…
Any, thanks for the tip, I will post ’bout it later. :D

Hey, where’s the site with every company’s timeline superimposed and searchable. Oh… that’s web 3.0.

That’s a cool little widget you’ve got there.

Google Acqusition Timeline

Peter Abilla informed me that he has created a time line on Google’s acquisitions. The time line was created using the “Timeline” feature in the SIMILE project from MIT, and data from this Wikipedia entry.

Google Acquisitions Mashup

A timeline that goes back to 2001, and shows a few I had forgotten about, as well as investments like Baidu and AOL.

Abgelegt in Suchmaschinen | Tags: none [...]

Pete:

Great work and what an amazing response! The next one you do should be a timeline of every time they violated their “don’t be evil” mantra. Now that would be cool!
