There is a lot of press on what seems to be Google on a buying spree. But, the data shows that, in fact, Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo have all acquired roughly the same amount of companies. This is interesting data indeed.

Nice overview!

Small correction: Yahoo never acquired AllTheWeb, it was acquired by Overture and was part of the Overture deal in October 2003 (as was Altavista)

One omission for Microsoft -

MessageCast was acquired by MS in May 2005

The MS Acquisition of Rare has Vicinity’s text. This isn’t the Rare who developed for Nintendo (Killer Instinct, the Donkey Kong Country series, among MANY others…), correct?

You forgot to add Multimap.com’s acquisition by Microsoft in 2007.
