Updated Timeline: Google, Microsoft, Yahoo

shmula.com, acquisitions by google, yahoo, microsoftDue to Yahoo’s land grab of 3 small companies today — Bix.com, MyBlogLog, and KenetWorks — and my omission of a company acquired by Microsoft in 2005 — MessageCast — I’ve updated the timeline. It is now accurate, as far as I’m aware. It shows all the acquisitions completed by Yahoo, Microsoft, and Google from 2001 to Present.

I’ve also updated the summary statistics below. Microsoft and Google are tied at 29 acquisitions to date, with Yahoo at a close 27.

There is a lot of press on what seems to be Google on a buying spree. But, the data shows that, in fact, Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo have all acquired roughly the same amount of companies. This is interesting data indeed.
