officially off blogger

i’m now officially on shmula.com! getting off of blogger was pretty easy. here’s what i did:

* i bought a domain name from godaddy.com
* i also got a hosting service from godaddy.com, in a linux environment
* i downloaded wordpress 2.0
* i unzipped the directory and changed the config file per instructions
* i ftp’d the unzipped file to my root directory on my host
* i opened a browser and followed the 5-minute install and was done in 3 minutes!

wordpress is awesome. i love that it’s based on php — it’s extensible, open source, and there’s a ton of freebies and a large community on the web.

on blogger, i also inserted a redirect to my new url www.shmula.com; the redirect happens after a few seconds. i fixed my feedburner, technorati, and rojo feedshare scripts for my new url.

gtalk on blackberry: i installed gtalk on my blackberry today. i’ve tried several times to sign-in, but i get a really cryptic message “the maximum number of friends has been reached.” what does this mean? what are they talking about. i was once excited for this service, but inertia has subsided because of software defects. beta, truly means, alpha in most cases.
