i joined amazon.com as a technical product manager (tpm). i joined as part of the merchants@ initiative. i had worked at a bunch of startups that all failed, but had great experiences and a degree from indian institute of technology. i was a manager over a team of 3 and managed software projects, but didn’t code that much.

amazon.com is fast-paced and none of the work is trivial. from day 1 you interact with really high level people. work is flexible, but really demanding. it’s a sweat shop.

pay is not so good, but decent. they give a lot of stock, but cash is not as good. this is no a secret. everybody there complains about this. the stock is pretty good because you get big cash once a year. if you can eat not well for a year, then get much cash once a year, then you’ll be okay.
i left amazon.com to join microsoft. microsoft is a big slow company, but they pay a lot in cash and the work is interesting. i had good experiences at the amazon.com.
