i don’t have a fancy degree and was not recruited out of anywhere. i never went to college, but had been a game programmer for a lot of years. i knew a friend who knew a friend who worked at amazon and needed some help. i was hired.
amazon is cheapa55 (last 2 letters replaced by shmula). they gave me a ton of stock, but little cash. i stuck around and cashed out stock every year of about $60K, when the stock was at $55/share. i left for more money and more stock. really good experience — recruiters go crazy over the the amazon.com name on my resume, but quality of life sucks. good name on your resume and good experience. quality of life sucks.
