Microsoft Vista Ad with iBook
Here’s one of those case studies that questions the claim that "All Buzz is Good Buzz." Microsoft’s Ad Agency wasn’t paying attention to the details and carelessly show a A Vista Ad with an Apple iBook in it — this can be seen in your nearest Best Buy. I don’t fault Microsoft for this mistake; this is, however, a great case study on whether positive or negative Word-of-Mouth can be spun to become a positive. So, is "All Buzz Good Buzz?"

Since this blog has gotten a little popular, I have companies contacting me and offering me free stuff and, if I choose to, perhaps blog about my experience with their products or service. What is interesting to me is that, in the grand scheme of things, I’m really a nobody. But, for some reason, marketers find this blog an interesting-enough venue to pitch products through.

A VP of Marketing from Wiley Publishers wrote me a few weeks ago and offered me a book to review. I asked why and her comment was that she noticed that I have a lot a post about customer obsession and that my subscribership was healthy. I said, "sure, send me the book." I’ve started to read it and I think it’s interesting, but I won’t finish it. But, I did find this gem about Toyota and how it has created word-of-mouth buzz through its presence in Second Life and Whyville.
